From Toronto, we drove through Michigan and Indiana, arriving in Chicago, by nightfall, July 28.

Day 3: We crossed the border from North Dakota back to Canada, passing miles of golden canola (rape seed) fields, stopping in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for a lunch break.

The longest floating boardwalk, Coeurs d'Alene, a pretty seaside town in Idaho.
From Montana, we cut through Idaho to Spokane, Washington, where we spent a night. After Spokane, we stayed a night in Seattle, with Sam and Noriko, then drove north of the border to Vancouver. After several days in the British Columbia capital, we crossed the border again, driving south through Washington State and Oregon to California, where we stayed with Ben, Inessa and Misha for a couple of weeks.

We spent the Labor Day weekend at Yosemite, with Ben, Inessa, Misha, and joined by Sam who flew in from Seattle. It was a perfect weekend. The mountains, especially the Half Dome, were breathtakingly beautiful.

From California, we headed for Reno, Nevada, where we relaxed for a couple of days, before heading for Salt Lake City, Utah, on our homeward journey.
