The day we went to Koprivshtitsa, the ground was icy. We could have broken some bones walking through the town, but the trip was well worth it, for the town was a beauty, quiet, peaceful, and scenic.

Assenova Fortress, Bulgaria
On our way to Bachkovo Monastery, we stopped at Assenova Fortress. A church is at the top of the hill, inside the Assenova Fortress. An Orthodox monk sang for us inside the church.

One of the well-known monasteries in Bulgaria, probably second to Rila, which we visited years ago on our first trip to Bulgaria.

Boyana Church, near Sofia, from 10th-13th C, has best preserved medieval art
The Boyana Church is a museum of the best preserved medieval religious wall paintings. It's an irreplaceable treasure house.
